GROWERS DISSATISFIED.

Price For Wheat Not Acceptable. Press Association —Copyright. Timaru, January 22. The wheat price, announced by the Government, caused some expressions of dissatisfaction at to-day’s meeting of the South Canterbury provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. Supporting a remit from the Pleasant Point branch asking that a committee be set up to investigate the price, Mr C. Ley said that it was the duty of the executive to obtain as much as possible for farmers. Mr J. C. Hay said that the price would have a detrimental effect on the area of wheat sown in the Dominion. He suggested that a copy of the report of the commission set up by the Government and presented to the Cabinet should be made public At least. lid of the price offered would, he said, go into new threshing charges. Mr A. J. Davey said that the commission had investigated the wheat growers’ case thoroughly, and had tried to do justice. The estimate he personally had submitted had not been reduced; indeed, in some cases, such as interest, the commission had raised his estimate, considering it too low for economical working. Un-

less it had changed its views, expressed when it was in North Canterbury, it seemed that the Minister bad gone past the commission. The publication of the report would reveal what the position was. It was decided to protest against the price .fixed and to ask for the publication of the inquiry commission’s report. The proposal that a committee should be set up was not proceeded with, as it was considered (hat there would be nothing for it to do.
