YEARLING SALE.

Annual Event At Trentham Last Week. All parts of New Zealand were represented in the large crowd that attended at Trentham on Thursday last for the eleventh annual national sale of thoroughbred yearlings. The sale was conducted by Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., Wellington, Pyne, Gould and Guinness, Ltd., Christchurch, and .Wil- | liam Inglis and Son, Ltd., Sydney, with Mr R. Inglis, of Sydney, as the auctioneer. It was an exceptionally good sale. Bidding was brisk from’ the start, and though there were a few lots that did not reach their I breeders’ reserves, most of those offered were sold. As usual the Australians played a big part in making the sale a success. They were free bidders for nearly all the best lots, many of which they secured. In all 39 of the yearlings were purchased for Australia at a total cost of 12,995gn5. Among them were nine bought for Mr W. R. Kemball, a liberal buyer at Trentham in other years, and now racing on a liberal scale in Melbourne. Mr G. M. Currie had a good sale, top price being paid by Mr G. J. Barton, of Dunedin, who gave JOOOgns for the Limond —Curtain colt, a brother to Pelmet and Smoke Screen. Mr John Donald, who dispersed his Westmere Stud, near Wanganui, arlier in the week had a good sale or his final appearance at Trentham

with yearlings. He offered 14 and they sold well. One of his Beau Pero colts from the Limond mare Helen, top-ped the sale at 1050gns and goes to Sydney, while another from Summertime was secured for Adelaide. The Beau Pere yearlings were being offered for the first time, and. they were in great demand. No untried sire has had such a good sale previously in New Zealand as this young Son-in-Law horse, purchased earlier in the week.
