HAWERA OLD BOYS ADD TO THEIR COMPETITION LEAD. HIGH SCORING IN SENIOR B. MATCHES. Stratford were too strong for Kaponga in the southern division senior cricket match at Kaponga on Saturday. A sparkling partnership by M. Beere, who made 61 and Cruickshank enabled them to declare when only six wickets were lost. After McKenzie had broken up the initial partnership Kaponga were dismissed easily, leaving a good margin of both runs and time. Old Boys had a similar victory over Power Board, whom they defeated by 179 for six wickets to 106. Patea beat Manaia with a margin of 37 runs. Hawera Old Boys increased their big competition lead with a win over Power Board. In the senior B section Hawera Old Boys took the lead in the competition, easily defeating Stratford B in the match at Victoria Park. Technical High School defeated Old Collegians in a lowscoring match at the school ground. There were no surprises in senior A competition cricket in the northern division on Saturday. The position in the game between New Plymouth Old Boys and Western Park remained fairly open, after a dull day's play, while New Plymouth High School is fighting for runs in its game with the competition leader, New Plymouth, Matthews was the highest scoring batsman in senior A competition in Taranaki with 8 I for New Plymouth. The best batting performance in the province was the 1 1 2 not out recorded by Falk for New Plymouth Old Boys’ junior team.
