BOROUGH RATES. Ratepayers in Stratford are remind ed by the acting Town Cl' rk, Mr G. C- Grace, that as the 31s’t‘ of January falls on a Sunday this year, all rates must be paid on or before Fi’i day, January 29. VISITORS TO MOUNTAIN. A large number of visitors journey- • d to the Stratford mountain house yesterday, including a party of 13 from Ohakune. A lieht fall of snow occurred on the higher reaches on Saturday night. BOROUGH WATER. Stratford Borough water will be cut off to-morrow, betwe: n the hours of 9 a in. and 12 noon in R’ gan Street from Broadway to Cordcl’a Street, and in Ariel Street from Sey ton Streit to Regan Street. NEW PLYMOUTH TOLL LINES. Five men who are working from the Strut;ord end on preparing poles for the new’ toll lines to New Plymouth, recommenced work to-day after the holiday break, during which no work on this job was done. A similar gang is working from New Plymouth. N.Z. FREE LANCE. In Ken Alexander’s cartoon in the current issue o,f the Free Lance, “We Us” submits an agenda for the Science Congress, which embodies some unanswered everyday problems for solution. Typical questions are: “When is Summer?” and “How to Cure the Wife of not having a thing to wear?” The cartoonist’s work is particularly clever this week. Other sections of this national pictorial weekly, such as women’s chat, sporting and general topics of the moment are full of interest to the reader. The pictorial section as/ usual is up-to date and of infinite variety.
