LOCAL BODIES’ VIEWS.
On Amalgamation Proposals Of Minister. Press Association—Gopyrrgiit. Nelson, Last Night. That there is a division of opinion on the benefits to be derived from the widespread amalgamation of local bodies was shown at a conference held in the Waimea County Council chambers. From the statements of delegates it was gathered: — (1) That the Tahunanui Town Board favoured amalgamation; (2) that the Wakapuaka Drainage Board favoured absorption if it could be shown to be in the interests of the ratepayers in its district and if they were to receive equal or better service, but at present it did not think that would result; (3) the Motueka River Board favoured amalgamation either with the Waimea County Council or the Motueka Borough; (4) the Motueka Borough Council was opposed to amalgamation; (5) the Richmond Borough Council was opposed to absorption by the County Council, but would favour becoming part of the City Council area in future years. (6) The Waimea County Council thought it would be in the interest of the district if part of Tahuna, the boroughs of Richmond and Motueka, the Motueka River Board and the Wakpuaka Drainage Board were absorbed by the county.
