INCIPIENT MUTINY ON SHIP
AT CAPE TOWN. VESSEL MAIMOA. Captain Shanghaied And Officers Rushed. Press Association —Copyright. Received 11.30 la.m. Capetown, Jan. 22. The refrigerated steamer Maimoa, of (the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co q , with cargo for Australia, is anchored 'the .Bay with the crew on strike. The Maimoa was about to leave the dock when It was found that a sailor was ■ mi'ssijhg. Twelve of the crew refused fco sail if their comrade was left behind 1 . They rushed the gangway, but the ship’s officers, supported by loyal sailors stopped the rush which, however, resulted i|n a melee. The objectors shanghaied the Captain who unsuccessfully pleaded . with them all night. Later 'he signalled for the police and the two ringleaders wer*e arrested and sentenced to 10 days’ hard labour for assaulting their officers. The firemen and trimmers then subsequently refuged duty. The missing sailor has been traced.
