HUGE WAGE INCREASE

BRITISH FIGURES WAGE LEVEL RISEN Largest Increase Any Year Since 1924. British Official Wireless. Received noon. Rugby, January 21. The Minister of Labour, Mr. Ernest Brown, informed the House of Commons at question time that in those industries for which statistics are regularly compiled, changes in the rates of wages reported during the just ended were estimated to have resulted in a net increase of £487,000 weekly in the full-time rates of about 4,000,000 workpeople. It is estimated in industries for which information is available that the average level of wages rose by about 3 per cent, during the period, ’the largest proportional increase in uny year since 1924.
