PROVISIONS RIFLED

Serious Mischief at Mountain Hut The serious harm that can be done by a thoughtless act of rifling emergency provisions at the mountain huts was brought to notice yesterday, when the searchers on Mount Egmont were needlessly handicapped by the fact that the provisions at Syme Hut on Fantham’s Pea'k’had been taken. This mischief was discovered by Guide D. Rawson on Sunday, but there was not time to remedy it before the search began and each party had to carry considerable quantities of provisions, when ascending. It was pointed out by the secretary of the South Committee of tho Egmont National Park Board. Mr. L. O. Hooker, that such an action might in some circumstances mean serious hardship or even death.
