PLEASANT GESTURE

New South Wales Cricket Association Move. New South Wales Cricket Association delegates on July 20 made a most pleasing gesture towards the players by throwing op; n to them for the first time the privileges of life membership. The resolution to amend the articles of association was carried unanimously, so that there is littlo doubt about confirmation of the change when it comes forward iu August. The delegates decided unanimously to make eligible for life membership all international cricketers who have played five Tests for Australia against either England or South Africa. They will on election have all the rights and privileges now accorded to delegates. Lunch and afternoon tea are provided and a comfortable seat from which they can watch the game and it must inevitably add to the good feeling between legislators and players. To the officials, it will be a boon as they will have, as'members of the association, technical advisers who can always be consulted on matters affecting the playing of the game. The only catch is that the player must at. the time of nomination b•; resident of the State. Thus Bradman and Brown are ineligible until, or unless they return to New South Wales to live, whereas Warwick Armstrong, who lives in Sydney, and who played many Tests for Australia, is eligible for election. The Sydney Cricket Ground Trust makes honorary members, players who have appeared in two series against England or South Africa and it has always been appreciated. Now the N.S.W.C.A. has come down to five matches —which might and often does mean—one series.
