Local Body Amalgamation The fear that the Government would go further with amalgamation j of local bodies than would bo bene- [ ficijl to farmers was expressed at I the first meeting of the newly-fu med Te Kuiti branch of the- Farmers’ i union. A suggested remit that the I branch support the Government in i ; aalgamation of local bodies, and j also in nationalisation of electricity ’ was left in abeyance. [ When this remit was proposed, Mr > IT. Gould said a lot of ratepayers’ ' money went into administration, but •it was difficult to know the effects j of amalgamation. Mr R. Farrer said it would appar- < ently put many people out of work, j Mr J. F. Roberts suggested that j this question be left in abeyance. I Any move for amalgamation should !be made cautiously. He was quite sure that it was coming in the near A future, and farmers would probalbly . find tbat. in the long run. amalgamaz Jon would be to their detriment.
