WELLINGTON SUMMER RACE MEETING

“ODDS-ON” REVIEWS FIELDS FOR WEDNESDAY’S EVENTS.

The Wellington Racing Club opens , 1 their summer meeting to-morrow. I i Splendid fields will face the starter f and with indications of improved I I weather conditions, the going should I t accommodate all entrants. The win s and place system will be in opera- f tion. 1 Trentham Highweight of £300; on- , mile.—Soloist 10.9, Taumau 10.1, ( Stratosphere 10.2, Convivial, Soho I j 9.12, Recollection 9.10, Cricket 9.8 f Otaki, Brigadore 9.7, Maestro, Night- . lass 9.6, Ilythia, Lady Ina 9.5, Earl , Colossus 9.3, Contract, Lady Siegfried, , Laggard 9.2. Bonny Glow, First Spec, ( Lady Wessex, Southern Blood. Tra- | velyn Hold 9.0. ( Proceedings open with the Tientbam Highwelght, run over one mile. Taumau has just won and is worthy of support whilst Strathosphere, Soho and Recollection may be closely liked. Convivial, seconded by Cricket, appeal over these and should get in the money. Maestro, Contract and Earl Colossus may surprise in disputing the third placing. Nightlass, Ilythia. Otaki and Bonny ' Glow will have many followers with I the remainder not chanceless. A 1 very open event may see them I CONVIVIAL. CRICKET. CONTRACT. * * * Wellington Stakes, of £500; five furlongs.—Paper Slipper 9.2, Sardius 8.6, Dawning Light, Candico 8.3, Francis Drake 7.12, The Crooner, Screamer, Landing 6.12, Relative, Brunhilde, Greenwich, Nelunibo, Jolly 6.9. For the Wellington Stakes, five furlongs, Paper Slipper will probably be selected over Francis Drake, but these two, good as they undoubti dly are, will find Brunhille and Greenwich, both on the minimum, tough customers. Dawning Light, Sardius, Candico, The Crooner and Relative are possibles whilst Nelum'bo is an improver with two starts for two placings. FRANCIS DRAKE. PAPER SLIPPER. GREENWICH. * * * j Half the field failed to accept for j the Apprentices’ Plate run over seven furlongs, each lad being now able to disclose bls ability in the comparatively small field. At the weights, Airing must appeal narrowly over Export who has produced a vast improvement and these two should hold the next four safely. Petersham, in great winning form, is held unbeatable by South Islanders, whilst Day Dress has crossed the Straits and won already. Mittie may be held sate by Rotoma and Master Limond. The latter has been suggested as unsuited in this event but the placings may bet AIRING. EXPORT. MASTER J.IMOND, * * * Fitzherbert Handicap, of £300; five furlongs.—Top Row 9.4, Geira 9.1, Icing 8.5, Wild Flower 8.3, Only One 8.1, Screen Star, Seaham, Yale 8.0, Sigurd, Bluffer, Haughty Winner 7.12, Son and Heir 7.10, Mercenary, Mulatto. Sly Fox 7.9, Accomplice. Airiui, Aureus, Fairy Dole, Hine Atu, Parinui, Raroa 7.7. Top Row is not eligible for the Fitzherbert Handicap scamper over five furlongs. Geira looks right for this one but is giving weight to some good performers and other improvers from which a surprise may come. Wildflower and Icing appeal, closely followed by Son and Heir and Screen Star. Then Yale, Sigurd, Mulatto and Accomplice deserve support over Seaham, Bluffer, Airini and Aureus. Possibles are GEIRA. WILDFLOWER. ACCOMPLICE. * * * Wellington Cup of £1000; 11 miles. —Flood Tide 9.6, Argentic 9.3, Queen of Song 9.3, Vintage 9.1, Dungarvan 8.12, Spiral 8.11, Davolo 8.7, Oratory 8.6, Fersen 8.5, Hazoor 8.3, Scotland 8.3, Lowenberg 8.1, Tiger Gain 8.1, Essex 7.12, Guarantee 7.9, Great Star, Lapell Limhohrn, Maine, Polydora, Ponty, Rebel Lad, Rona Bay, Terry, Tunneller 7.7. The Wellington Cup over one and a-half miles has produced a splendid field. An endless task is overcome by graibbing the twice unextended one and a-half mile double winner, Floodtide. And Jimmy Ellis has not yet won this race. Scotland meets him 71bs advantageously and should these two be untroubled by the left-

handed going, may fight out the fin- j ish. Queen' of Song is about ready j } for her second victory. Argentic, a , form selection, is at his best. Ora- ; , Lory, a good prospect, deserves the | support promised her. Fersen has j fallen from favour but Broughton has a splendid chance of landing him here. Lowenberg and Dungarven appeal over Hazoor and Tiger Gain, who also appear to hold it over Davolo and Vintage. Spiral finds favour —not mine. Essex and Pouty are an interesting pair here, ye t can- i not be awarded a bracket. Rona Bay and Polydora are not chanceless. Guarantee, Great Star, Lapel. Rebel Lad, Tunneller and Terry will have friends, whilst Maine may again appear unheralded. FLOODTIDE, SCOTLAND. ORATORY. QUEEN OF GONG. * * * Ruapehu Handicap, of £300; six. furlongs.—Huntette Orate 8.11, Tosh 8.11, Lacquer 8.9, The Buzzer 8.9, Thermidor 8.7, Cape Gabo 8.5, Denham 8.4, Sansfoy 8.4, Jazz Boy 8.4, Sanhedrin 7.13, Lady Ina 7.11, Orange Red 7.11, Count Siegfried 7.10, Toorak 7.8, Mai de Mer 7.7, Patter 7.7. The Ruapehu Handicap over six furlongs may find Huntette faiicied but Tosh is du , to land one. The Buzzer, Lacquer, Thermidor, Cape Gabo and Dob ham have good prospects for a place. Orate and Jazz Boy. both doulble winners, appeal, whilst Sanhedrin and Lady Ina | on the weights ask for support. % If ready Orango Bud could succeed. Toorak and Count Siegfried are promising. TOSH, THE BUZZER. LADY INA. -X- * -XTelegraph Handicap, of £400; six furlongs.—Namakia 9.5, Kiiockfin 8.9, Pakanui 8.9, Greek Gold 8.6, Concert Pitch 8.5, Lady Kyra 8.4, Gold Boa 8.2, Karl 8.2, Lochldggan 8.2, Royal Dance 8.0, Laughing Lass 7.12, Viking 7.9, Lone Raider 7.8, Deficit T. 7, Fulojoy 7.7, Mata Hari 7|.7, Symcojiy 7.7, Peter Beckford 7.7. From the field of sprinters in the Telegraph Handicap run over 'six ■ furlongs, any one may emerge, j Namakia is still in but may be un- ' able to concede such weight. Knock- j fin runs ins and outs, but Pakanui, Greek Gold and Concert Pitch then stand out. Lady Kyra raced well recently and with one stone less, equally Appeals with the well performed Gold Boa. Lochlaggan has succeeded recently whilst Karl promises a sterling performance. Royal Dance secured a third Indicat ing an early win, and carries only 8.0. Laughing Lass is very consistent and with Peter Beckford should be close up. Lone Raider, Deficit and Fulojoy fail to appeal; Symcony fades out too frequently but Mata Hari goes on improving. ROYAL DANCE. GOLD BOA. LAUGHING LASS. * * * Anniversary Handicap, of £359; one mile. —Pladie- 8.12, Friesland 8.11, Passion Flower 8.9, Rebel Chief 8.8, Shy 8.6, Custos 8.4, Land Raid 8.4, Chief Ranger 8.3, Haut Monde 8.2, Jubilee Song 8.2, Bun Fight, Corroboree, Geitel, Manetho, Mefal Bird 8.0. Anniversary Handicap run over one mile is headed by Pladie, who may not be ready, thus Friesland may rightly be in demand. Passion Flower and Rebel Chief may be safely held by Shy, whilst Custos, 1 although frequently just beaten, is -reported in great order for a capture. Land Raid’s form is good and Chief Ranger is due’ to collect one this week, whilst Haute Monde awaits reasonable' going. Geitel is good and may account for two fair sorts in Bun Fight and Manetho. Corroboree thus far fails to fulfil ex- • pectations. Those securing places 1 may be i / FRIESLAND. 1 GEITEL. CHIEF RANGER. The owner of Shy states his horse may not start.
