The Morning Post’s naval correspondent understands that the construction of eight cruisers will be authorised in the (Coming financial year, making the 1937 cruiser programme the biggest since the emergency war programme of 1916-17. In addition three battleships are likely to be laid down, (which with the two laid down on January 1 will provide a class of five 33,000 ton ships, (armed with 14inch guns. Japan has not yet agreed to the 14-inch ' limit, but the new battleships will be required primarily t o offset tne battleships Germany is building which are specially designed to mount 11-inch and 14-inch guns.
