OBITUARY.
Death Of Mrs. A. J. Brieseman.
The death occurred at the public hospital yesterday of Mrs Rose Juliet Brieseman, at the age of 69. For 42 years Mrs Brieseman was a resident of Stratford. Mrs Brieseman, who was a Miss Wheeler, was born at Bath, England. Her mother died while she was a child and Mrs Briesman came to New Zealand in the Tongariro in 1884 at the age of 17, her father having died shortly before. After holding positions in Dunedin and Wellington she began working for C. M. Ross and Co., Palmerston North, where she remained until she married Mr H. W. C. Brieseman in 1895. In the meantime, however, she paid occasional visits to her sister, Mrs C. M. Watkins, who is now one of Stratford’s oldest residents at the age of 88. The first time Mrs Brieiseman visited Stratford the town was a raging inferno and it was impossible to see more than a few yards from the train,. The only building saved on that occasion, Mrs Brieseman used to recall, was the Catholic Church, which was saved by the use of blankets soaked in water. Mr and Mrs Brieseman lived at Opunake Road from 1895 to 1909, when they moved to Ariel Street, where Mrs Eirieseman. had resided ever since. Mr Brieseman died in 1916. Mrs Brieseman, who was of a retiring disposition, remained in comparatively good health until last week, when she was-removed to the public hospital, where her death occurred. She is survived by her sister, Mrs Watkins, and two sons, Messrs W. A. C. (Carl) Brieseman and F. J. H. Brieseman, both residents of Stratford.
