MILITARY TRAINEES* ILLEGAL. USE OF AMMUNITION. MELBOURNE, November 2». At the City Court to-day, Rober> lenry Broome, 17, labourer, was •barged with having killed a man unmown at Thornbury last night. A second youth who was detainee jy the police will appear before the Children’s Court. Broome was reuanded for a week. Senior Detective Lambell said thai ihortly after 10 o’clock last nigh! leveral shots were heard in the viciitty of the council rubbish tip anC later a man was found lying dead ihot through the lungs. It was alleged, added Lambell, tha> the accused and a companion narne< Roberts, who is a military trainee aaet at 9.30. Roberts had In his possession a military service, rifle and Bight rounds of ammunition. Ft wai alleged that Roberts had picked uj the ammunition at target practice They then went to Merrl Greek and each Cred three rounds into the creek They then walked up the bank and tht other boy fired a shot Into the air, he said, and then accused fired a shot waist high, and they heard a man groaning. Becoming frightened, thej hurried home.
