OBITUARY

MR. HENRY B. KIDD.

Pioneer Of Cheese Manufac-

(A pioneer in the cheese manufacturing industry in Taranaki, Mr Henry Beresford Kidd, of Stratford, died at the New Plymouth Hospital

on Saturday. ' . i The late Mr Kidd was born at Tapanui, Otago, 60 years ago, and after completing his education he took a great interest in dairy produce manufacture. He went to the North Island to work in a factory at Featherstone, and after a year or two became manager of a cheese factory at Mangaroa, Upper Hutt. Later Mr Kidd went to Omata, North Taranaki, and started the first cheese factory. His next venture was in eastern Taranaki, where he successively commenced the manufacture of cheese at Kiore, Huiroa, and Huiakama. In 1924, when a railway strike interrupted the carriage of hla cheese he started a motor transport service to New Plymouth, the business subsequently acquired by Messrs Hooker Bros. Ltd. Within the last nine months Mr Kidd became ill and was unable to continue active work. He is survived by three aona:—• Charles Vernon Kidd, Robert ford Kidd (Stratford), Geo. Franklin Kidd (New Plymouth), and five daughters, Mrs R. E. Pope (Ngaere), Mrs B. Boyle (Wanganui). Mrs S. Judson (Eltham), Mrs T. Ryan (Makahu), and Miss Mavis Kidd (Hawera). A brother, Mr B. F. Kidd, lived at Omata and another brother, Mr R. W. Kidd, resides at Henderson. Mrs Tomllnsdn, of Frankton Junction, is a half-sister. Interment took place this afternoon at the Kopuatama cemetery, the funeral leaving the residence of his son, Mr R. B. Kidd, Pembroke Road.
