Sentence On Driver Drunk In Charge Of Car.

Describing the case as a bad one which gave him no alternative but to impose a term of imprisonment, Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., to-day senteneed Norman Francis Sandbrook, 29, labourer, to three weeks’ imprisonment for being intoxicated while in charge of a car. The accused pleaded guilty. The police said about. 1 a.m. on January 7, accused’s car collided wilh several verandah posts in Willis Street, carrying them away and bringing down the verandah, .which broke three plate-glass windows. The car continued on its way but. was stopped by a taxi-driver, who removed the ignition key. The police then arrived and a medical examination at the station showed that accused .was unfit to drive. Extensive damage, was done to the car. Accused’s driving license was suspended until May.3l.
