SHUNTING TRACTOR.
S.O.S. Comes To Local Railwaymen.
The shunting tractor once in use at the Stratford Railway yards, has been found a home at National Park station, where it is living up to its reputation of refusing to budge at the critical moment. The result was an S.O.S. call to a Stratford railway employee who left yesterday for National Park to put the machine in
running order. Whenever the tractor broke down in the Stratford yards this man alone could get it moving again.
When it arrived at Stratford it was hailed as an innovation and was a source of much public interest. It was reputed to b$ able t,o draw a lead of 200 tons and to travel at a
very fast speed. The tractor was powered by an in
ternal combustion engine running on kerosene fuel and, except for its unreliability, served the purpose for which it was secured. Later, how-
ever, it was found that there was generally a locomotive in the yards
to do the shunting and the tractor was no longer required.
