Pretended To Be Wed

YOUNG COUPLE’S RUSE FOR GUESTS’ SAKE

Thirty guests sat uown to a wedding breakfast at a house in Round Hillcrescent, Brighton, England.- Thirty glasses were raised to toast the con-fetti-covered bride and bridegroom. Then the bride rose slowly to_ her feet, and sadly removed the wedding ring from her finger. There had been no wedding.

The bride, 30-year-old Ada Moreton, handed the ring to her fiance, George King (24), of St. Martins street, Brighton. Then she explained to her guests how she had confused the register office period of notice with that of a church. A register office requires 21 clear days, the church only three clear Sundays. When the couple found their mistake, the registrar told the Daily Sketch, they tried to get a special licence, but there was no time. The ceremony was postponed. A guest said: “Sooner than disappoint their friends the couple decided to pretend they were married until the reception started.”
