GETTING PALACE READY

THE KING AND QUEEN

FIRST TURF WIN. King’s Horse Won Smethwick Steeplechase. Press Association—Copyright. Received 11.30 a.m. London, January 12. Their Majesties, King George and Queen Elizabeth, toured Buckingham Palace, making arrangements for their residence in the Palace. The Queen made the arrangements and made decisions for the accommodation of visitors to the Coronation. The King had his first win on the Turf when his horse, Marconi, the favourite, won the Smethwick Handicap Steeplechase at Birmingham, beating the Grand National favourite. Marconi, who has now raced in the colours of three Kings, was well to the rear a mile from home, but then came through dashingly, amid loud cheering.
