AMUSEMENTS.

Plaza Theatre. An atmosphere of intense drama and electrifying suspense is excellently maintained throughout the entire length of the Paramount film “The Caso Against Mrs Ames,” showing at the Plaza to-night and to-morrow. Produced by Walter Wauger, the film has for its leading player the beautiful English stage aid screen player, Madeleine Carroll, who takes the part of a wounati charged with the murder of her husband and who Is later threaitened with the loss of her only child. Playing opposite Miss Carroll as the ruthless prosecuting counsel who seeks to send the beautiful woman to the gallows, George Brent gives an outstanding performance. The opening scenes depict Mrs Ames on trial for the murder of her husband. Circumstantial evidence points to her guilt, public opinion is definitely against her, and even her own lawyer seems half-hearted in his defence. In an intensely moving courtroom scene the accused woman pleads for a chance to defend herself, and although she is finally acquitted’ she remains guilty in the eyes of the public. Her terrific fight against the power and wealth of her mother-in-law for the custody of her child makes a dramatic climax which will impress even the severest of critics.
