LEGISLATION READY Minister Has Received Much Co-operation. Press Association —Copyright. Wellington, Last Night. Included in the legislation to be considered by Parliament next session will be a Local Government Amlagamation Schemes Bill. The measure, which aims at lessening the number of local bodies now functioning in the Dominion, was introduced in the dying hours of last session but was not proceeded with.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, stated to-day that he was endeavouring to comply with the wishes expressed by local authorities in both islands to visit them and discuss the main provisions and objective of the proposed legislation. “I have already done this in my travels in one or two parts of the North Island,” the Minister said. “I was delighted with the spirit of cooperation of local bodies in the proposals of th e Government. The main principle of them has appealed. is to provide a simple method of bringing about a substantial reduction in the number of local bodies and to create bigger and better local government units.”
