EARLY SNOWFALL.
Wintry Conditions At Mountain House.
A fall of snow which commenced last night and continued until early this morning was experienced at the Stratford moun’aijn resort and Egmont viewed to-day presented a spectacle not often seen so early in the year. In fact, it is some years since so much snow fell in the month of January. From the summit right down to the 4,500 feet level snow covered the slopes, hut there was not sufficient at the house to whiten the ground. The weather at the house this morning had been showery, with some sleet, but there had been oc casional glimpses of the sun, stated • the caretaker, Mr J. Carryer, in reply |to a telephone inquiry by the Cen- • tral Press. He added that despite I the inclem nt weather the number of I visitors during the month had been ; fairly const.-nt, and with improved ! conditions he anticipat' d that the I figures for the month would be well i ahead of last year.
