Teachers in Secret Talks
£ - SUNDAY SCHOOL WAR Suftday school teachers of Charn-Wood-road Baptist Church, Shepshed, Leics, England, who had resigned in sympathy with Miss Elsie Smith, their treasurer for 29 years, after she had been banned from the church for defying the minister, were cross-examined behind locked doors by a committee of five set up by the minister. They were sworn to secrecy, and no Statement was forthcoming from the minister, Rev. F. G. Parker. They had attended the TnqtHry after being offered reinstatement by the committee, if they would agree to the amalgamation of the Sunday school with the ehurch, and swear allegiance to the minister. This, inquiry was described by teaehwho refused to attend it as an f< inquisition, ” It was the latest move in the Sunday (school war at the church which has split the congregation into two camps— One for the teachers and one for the minister and his dfeacons. The Sunday school has for many years been a separated organisation.
