Bowling Incident. One of the most extraordinary incidents that has ever happened in a game of bowls occurred on *the Northend green on Tuesday evening during the four-rink competition in the match between rinks skipped by A. V. Keast (Northend) and W. H. Freeman (Waihopai). The latter lay three shots with a toucher in the ditch, which it was “Bombard Street to a China orange” would prove a scorer. Keast had a toucher about a yard in front and not a bit dismayed remarked to his third “If I can drive that wood on to their bowl I might get shot.” With a fast drive he hit the head, the toucher flaw into the ditch, and, hey presto! dislodged the sure shot and day alongside the kitty. The winner of the in Tatts could, not have been more surprised than the spectators or the optimistic skip. The incident was striking proof of the axiom that anything is possible in bowls. Still it was played-for and coufd not be called a “fluke.”
