John Lewis.

One of the team of sparring partners taken to England by John Henry Lewis prior to his fight with Len Harvey, whom he defeated on points, is a negro with red hair. Before the bout Lewis favourably impressed the critics. One of them, B. Benniston, said of him:—“He was pleasantly surprising. Far from being ah everyday negro with no soul above the fighting pit, I found him to be quite an engaging young man, well-spoken, positively no trumpeter, the least American, promising nothing but. to give of his best. He has been splendidly put together, all bone .and muscle, height round about 6ft, reach enormous. And he is no Older than 22.”
