The first underground power station in the world has been built near Rostin, in Pomerania, Germany. Its function will he to facilitate the draining and regulation of the course of the river Persante. By its erection the river bed has been shortened from albout 14 miles to 11 miles. The cost was rather less than two-thirds that of a power station aJbovc the water level.
