| Explorer Plans Submarine Expedition. Press Association—Copyright. London, January 3. “I put my last penny in my second Arctic submarine expedition, which cost about £35,000. I have £25,000 and hope to raise the remainder in England,” said Sir Hubert Wilkins on his arrival from the United States to-day. He added that the expedition would start in July, 1937, or July, 1938. He proposes to cross from Spitsbergen under the North Pole to the Behring Sea. a distance of 2200 miles. The expedition would last about two and a-half months. Australians and New Zealanders Preferred Reveived 1.30 p.m. London, January 4. Sir Hubert Wilkins told the Australian Associated Press that it was uncertain when his expedition would begin, owing to the difficulty ot getting a submarine. It might not be until 1938. Already about 4000 applications to join his crew had been received, many from Australians and New Zealanders. “I prefer Australians and New Zealanders if possible, because they are wonderful comrades. I cannot afford to bring any to England, and so intend seeking qualified Australians and New Zealanders here. Otherwise I will use Englishmen or Norwegians.
