FURTHER ATTACK ON EX-KING
BISHOP OF PETERBOROUGH MAKES A CONTRAST. DUTY OF THRONE IS TO SACRIFICE PRIVATE HAPPINESS. THAT WAS EXAMPLE SET BY GEORGE V. (Press Association—Copyright.) Received l ! 1.15 a.m. LONDON, January 3. The Bisjiop of Peterborough, writing in his diocesan publication, contrasts "the ex-King declining the burden of State” because of his desire for domestic love and peace, with the new King, whose family life has been an object of admiration and envy, and who is ready to sacrifice much private happiness in order to be the servant of servants to his countrymen.” The Bishop adds that nobody would ever desire the Throne. King George VI ascended it because the claims of his country demanded the sacrifice of his personal freedom, thereby repeating the lesson of devoted public service given by his father King George V and Queen Mary in the sincerity and selflessness of their official life.
