ILLNESS PURSUING ITS FATAL COURSE CONDITION OF POPE PIUS IS SHOWING NO IMPROVEMENT. - MOVES ABOUT IN SPECIAL ARM-CHAIR. (Press Association—Copyright.) Received 11.30 a.m. Vatican City, January 1. A well-informed Vatican authority has disclosed that all hopes of the Pope’s recovery is abandoned. He said that the illness was slowly pursuing its fatal course. The Pope had a restful night and heard Midnight Mass from an adjoining room. His physician has ordered a special arm-chair, in which Holiness will be able to move about with his troubled leg.
