Fifth Death Occurs At ” Dunedin. Press Association—Copyright. Dunedfu, Last Night. The fifth fatal case since the. outbreak of the infantile paralysis epidemic was reported oh Thursday morning when a young woman, agjd 25 yenrs, who had been admitted to the Dunedin hospital the previous afternoon suffering from severe respiratory paralysis, succumbed to the disease. Two further admissions were recorded during the New Year period, a girt, aged 10 years, who showed positive Indications of the infection being ’received on Thursday and a boy, aged nine years, being brought In for observation to-day Christchurch Is still free from snfautile paralysis, both children admitted to hospital on Wednesday, being discharged. In each case thlfl diagnosis was negative, and no more™ suspects have been admitted. Two infantile paralysis suspects, boys aged three years and 15 months respectively,, were admitted to the Wellington hospital yesterday’ for observation. It is not considered likely that either child is suffering from the disease. The Dunedin boy is the only Wellington case positively Identified a s paralysis, all the others being negative. The first case of infantile paralysis reported at Auckland was notified to the health authorities to-day. A female child, aged four, was admitted to the Auckland hospital. A child and an adult- from Dunedin were .guests at the home of the affected Auckland child for two days a fortnight ago. It is therefore the opinion of the authorities that the case is the result of direct contact from the source of the paralysis outbreak.
