A Review of the Card for To-morrow

STRATFORD RACING CLUB MEETING WHAT “ODDS ON” THINKS OF THE FIELDS

The Stratford Racing Club open their New Year meeting tomorrow with a card of splendidly even fields and patrons can be assured of a great day’s sport. In reverting to the old system of betting—7s/25 per cent. —it must be recognised that the club’s unselfish action deserves full recognition in the practical manner of early investments. This action isespecially desirable, as the Club means to close the totalisator punctually to time.

The card is as follows: TRIAL STAKES. Of £lOO. Five furlongs.

Glen.hawn 8 7 Autumn Arahura 8 7 Leaf 8 7 Kentucky Mowgli 8 7 Song 8 7 Orate 8 0 Exquisite, 8 7 Gay Step 8 0 Racing Lady 8 7 Gold Band 8 0 Ohanga 8 7 Silver Gold 8 0 Racecall 8 7 King Koroki 8 0 This opening race may find five horses fairly evenly supported. Racecall has secured several places recently, whilst Orate was second to a really good one in King Neptune. Autumn Leaf and Kentucky Song both showed good form at New Plymouth, and with Glenthawn due for one, I conclude those will probably be in demand. Gold Band was prominent on Monday, whilst Ohanga may be the dark ’un. Of the remainder Gay Step and Racing Lady may" surprise. Those in the money may be ORATE. RACE CALL. KENTUCKY SONG. DOUGLAS HANDICAP. Of £2OO. Six furlongs.

Lady Ky'ra 9 0 Friesland 8 6 Refresher 8 13 Nocium 7 11 Royal Clessamor 7 7 Secret 8 9 Ned Cuttie 7 7 Grateful 8 7 Gappy 7 7 Hera is a field of classy sprinters. Lady Kyra will need to produce her best to hold the evergreen Refresher. Royal Secret may find difficulty in securing a place, but Grateful and Friesland strongly appeal. Notium received a nice opening on Monday and won well, but he will require his best effort to hold Clessainor, who will appreciate his lightweight and be in the finish. Ned Cuttie won comfortably at Palmerston North, but Cappy may not be quite good enough. Those in places may be FRIESLAND. ■ CLESSAMOR. GRATEFUL.

JUVENILE HANDICAP. Of £l3O. Five furlongs. I Winsome Lu 8 .10 Seaham 7 9 Orate 8 5 Vantoon 7 9 Shemseh 8 0 Little Gold Band 8 0 Robin 7 9 Earner 7 9 Ripple 7 7 Auto Sjveep 7 9 Fairy Dale 7 7 The strong favourite in New Plymouth, Winsome Lu, in defeating Cheval da Volee may be in demand for this flutter, but should Orate and Gold Band be reserved, they may be capable' of a deciding performance. Shemseh produced a fair third last Saturday 1 and may improve under better conditions. Fairy Dale proved its tra’ck work with a splendid second ahead of Cheval de Volee and .may be worthy of generous support. Ripple and another good track worker, Little Robin, may shortly salute the judge. Fafncr, Vantoon and Auto Sweep are perhaps not yet ready. Seaham turned about at the barrier on Monday, giving no line on the progress of the local entrant. Omitting Orate, those sought may be SHEMSEH. WINSOME LU. FAIRY DALE. STRATFORD CUP. Of £4CO. One mile and aquarter.

Onewhetu 9 0 Tahurangi 7 7 Fersen 8 12 Taitoru 7 7 Lowenberg 8 7 Airing 7 7 Refresher 8 2 Windscreen 7 7 Aussie Ra 8 0 Master Davistock 7 9 Liniond 7 7 Tradesman 7 9 The Cup has drawn 12 acceptors, and, although the same number of starters as last year, this is a better class field which should provide a sterling contest’. The public may sort out the top three .to carry chief support. Onewhetu has gone the right way for a third and a fourth in his two starts at Palmerston North. Fersen, the New Zealand Cup winner, was an unfortunate runner in the Auckland Cup, securing fifth berth. Lowenberg won well at Palmerston North in a field of five and with only 21b re-handicap added, greatly appeals. Given a firm track, Aussie Ra and Davistock, although neither have form to support them, would be difficult to dispose of a,t these weights. The former winning at J both New Plymouth and Haweia and the. latter winning this race last year with 8.5 are their chief credentials. Tradesman, favoured by the conditions at New Plymouth, could only produce a second in a comparatively weak field of five, but with a drop In weight and possible wet conditions, may be close up. Tahurangi is dangerous but Windscreen has no form. Taitoru is an interesting acceptor and his return to form includes a win over 8£ furlongs with 9.2, and produced fit with 7.7, presents you wfth the, question. Airing and Master Liraond appeal more in their other engagements. Try them thus: AUSSIE RA. ‘‘‘. ONEWHETU. LOWENBERG. OHURA HURDLES. Of £l5O. One mile and a-half. Soloist 11 7 Rua King 9 9 Redolent 10 10 Racewhip 9 6 Beau Star 10 5 Don Erma 9 2 Delrain 9 10 Prince Reno 9 0 Soloist may’ need this race. Redolent and Delrain, both twice placed at New Plymouth, may be hardest to beat. Rua King’s Monday performance was good and he may be the public choice. Racewhip and • Don Erma are not chanceless. Beau Star has improved greatly and may be well supported. Prince Reno fails to appeal. Those filling places may be DELRAIN. RUA KING. ] REDOLENT. TARIKI HACK. Of £l5O. Nine furlongs. High Test 9 0, Cyllaros 7 9 I Tutor 8 11 Bonny Glow 7 71 Bantry 8 7 International 7 71 Corowa 8 I Sorcclry 7 7 j Le Gland 8 3 Naughty ' Trouvaille 7 12 Marietta 7 7| Master Red Fox 7 7 j Liraond 7 11 Lady Mabs 7 7| High Test has a chance here to

amend his Monday defeat. Le Grand and Master Limond (y'et a maiden) may extend the lop weight, and with Bantry and Tutor form a dangerous quartet. Corowa and Trouvaille are possibles, whilst Bonny Glow has been knocking. Cyliaros may one day surprise over this distance. International, of reputation, must be taken on trust. The others fail to appeal. The first three may be H‘GH TEST. LE GRAND. MASTER LIMOND. ELTHAM HIGH-WEIGHT. Of £l7O. Seven furlongs. Mustang 8 5 Airing 8 0 , Tuaheahe 8 1 Calshot 80 I Supreme Seaman 8 0 Court 8 0 Professional 8 0 Tutor 8 0 Libra 8 0 Windsoreen 8 0 Red Fox 8 0 The title of thre race is rather a misnomer, also being at extremely close ‘weights. Mustang .strongly 1 appeals, followed closely by Tuaheahe and Supreme Count. Airing with a great run of wins may be public fancy, whilst Tu.or (.f reserved), Calshot, Sea,man and Prof.ssional all merit the support which they must receive. Libra failed to produce any form at New Plymouth. The result could be MUSTANG. TUAHEAHE. SUPREME COURT. RAILWAY HACK. Of £l4O. Six furlongs. Ned Cuttie 9 0 Advance Red Sand 9 0 Plane 8 0 Ngatirahiri 9 0 Ringside 8 0 I Black Friar 8 11 Autumn ’professional 8 7 Leaf 7 11 • Cappy 8 6 Racing Lady 7 11 I Sanhedrin 8 2 Rarturn 7 11

The Railway Hack Handicap may' find Ngatirahiri the chosen one, but Red Sand and Professional (if reserved), may trouble the New Plymouth double winner. An additional acceptor Ned Cuttle who defeaited Peter Beckford on Monday may find his weight too much for this smart field. Cappy and Advance Plane are dangerous whilst Ringside staged a return to form with a good second to Professional. Sanhedrin and Autumn Leaf may have friends, whilst Black Friar docs not lack leputation. But it may be
