Road Safety at New Year.
This is a plea—a plea to motorists in this district for sane driving during: the holiday week-end. Will not every driver seriously try to minimise the risk of accident by careful driving, sober conduct, and regard for the safety of other users of the roads?
The many tragedies of Christmas week arc still fresh in out minds. That New Zealand, with a population of only a million and a half, should have a toll of approximately a death per day throughout the year is evidence of gross carelessness and wilful disregard for human life. The coming week-end normally sees the greatest traffic rush of the year. Unless conditions improve, the prospect is truly appalling. So it is we make our plea for safety first,
