THE TURF.
I SNAPPY SHORTS BY “TOP-WEIGHT.”
' The Stratford Racing Club's j acceptances closed last night and • very excellent fields arc now dis- - closed. I congratulate the club I in the fine response shown by j owners, and all that is required { now to complete a Happy New j Year’s Day, is fine weather. I The Taranaki Club can also be coni gratulated. Their gate-takings were | £l3l up on last ye’ar and the total- ■ isator £2249 l(ls increase for the I meeting. They encountered shocking luck with the weather conditions, ami but for that the increases on gate and totalisator would have, been bettered considerably. Better luck tr-xl time New Plymouth. ! 11. Gray, trainer of Fersen, states I Hint his horse was unlucky' in no't . filling a place in the Auckland Cup. I lie was badly stopped by Sporting I Blood at a critical stage in the race j and then finished very fast into fifth i position. Fersen is almost certain to i be seen out at Stratford.
