Awatea Sets New Record For Trip. Press Association —CopyTi gh t. Wellington, Last Night. When she passed Pencarrow Head this morning the Awatea completed the fastest crossing of the Tasman She has made since she entered the service in September. The ship left Sydney on Christmas night and, averaging 21.21 knots, made the passage from Sydney Heads to Wellington Heads in 58 hours 22 minutes, which is 51 minutes better than the previous fastest and is a new record for the Sydney to Wellington crossing. The Awatea was not pressed in any way. She made the passage on five of her six boilers.
