A HOLIDAY HIKE.
GIRLS' LONG TRIP. Lifts By Motorists Freely Offered. On a holiday hiking trip two Wellington girls arrived in Stratford this morning. After a visit to King Edward Park they set out to tramp to Dawson Falls, where they will make a brief stay before continuing on their homeward journey. As to their identity or occupation they were somewhat reticent when
speaking to a Press reporter. They left Wellington by train on Christmas Eve and proceeded as far as Wanganui. Next day they commenced their hike to the north. Motorists had been very' kind to them and now they are looking forward to doing some real hiking. However, those lifts kindly- offered were greatly appreciated during the wet weather experienced on their journey to Taranaki. With this assistance they have been able io proceed as far as New Plymouth in a very short space of time. One of the girls remarked that so far they ha 3 not been courageous enough to approach farmhouses for fear of dogs. No noteworthy experience marked their tour but their observations which are being set down in writing as they’ go along, should make interesting reading.
All their gear, sufficient for their requirements until their return to Wellington on January 4, is carried iix light packs. Sun glasses, sandshoes, and typical hiking costumes contribute to the comfort of travel.
