JAPAN ACCUSES BRITAIN
COMBINED ACTION.
TO THWART ADVANCE New Naval Base Said To Be Established. Press Association —Copyright. Tokio. December 22.
The newspaper Jijishimpo today publishes a sensational article that Britain, France, the United States, the Netherlands and the Philippines are organising a policy to thwart Japan’s southward advance, which they regard as menacing their interests in south-east Asia and in the South Pacific, and to meet the new Ger-mano-Japanese pact.
To reinforce Singapore and Hong Kong, the paper adds, a new anti-Japanese base will be established on an island off the South China coast, including fortifications, oil tanks and an air base. For this base it is said that English capital of 10,009,000 Chinese dollars, or nearly £l,000,000, has been appropriated.
