THE LONG ACRE.
Mowing the Roadside in the Town. There has been phenomenal growth of grass on the roadsides in the borough this month, and the borough horse-mower has laid flat considerable areas in several of the side streets. The demand for the grass for haymaking is keen, and those housr.hoMqrs in the neighbourhood of the cutting operations possessing a cow or two, quickly harvest the crop, in this connection, the driver of the mower recalls an amusing story of ’the days when the rule of “first, come first served” was in vogue. One man set to work when the mower left the scene, and in a day or two had a nice little stack of hay ready’ to be taken home. But the job had taken longer than Anticipated, and darkness prevented its completion. Alas, next morning there was no sign of th y hay, as the ranger had come along and gathered it to his fold!
