MEMORIAL HEALTH CAMPS.
New Zealand’s Tribute To Late King George V. Press Association —-Copyright. Wellington, To-day. A fund for the permanent establishment of children’s health camps as a national memorial to the late King George V is proposed by the New Zealand Government. The project has been approved by Cabinet because such a memorial will not be confined to any one spot in the Dominion and will be in keeping with the sympathetic concern always felt by King George during his 25 years’ memorable reign for the health and recreation of his subjects. The Government at an early date will inaugurate the King George V Memorial Fund with a substantial contribution, and will use all the departmental machinery at its disposal to help in the appeal to the people.
This decision was announced on Saturday by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, who said that Cabinet had given consideration to the questions of adequately celebrating the coronation of King George VI and Queue Elizabeth and providing a national memorial to the memory of his late Majesty King George V. During the coronation period, public buildings throughout New Zealand will, as in 1911 and 1902, be suitably decorated and illuminated. The Government has already approved a comprehensive scheme drawn up by an inter-departmental committee.
