At the end of the second day of the test, which was curtained by thunderstorms, England was still at the creases with the score 426 for six wickets, and now seems to have a very firm grip on the game. England to-day added 147 runs for the loss of three wickets. Hammond is still unconquered, having been in more than seven and a half h'ours, during which time he has scored 26 boundaries He was solid rather than brilliant to-day and did not give a chance throughout his long stay. The attendance was 42,746. The scores are:
