Miss Bartlettj. left on Friday night for Auckland to spend the Xmas holidays with her people. Mrs D. Glasgow (Huinga) is spending the week-end with Mrs W. J. Spence, Olivia Street. • • • Mrs J. B. Richards has returned from an enjoyable visit to Mrs. Roberton (Tahora). Miss Elcombe, of the staff of St. Mary’s School, left by the mail train for Auckland for Christmas. She was accompanied by Miss A. Court.

Miss Palmer, who has been staying with Miss Wilson, left for the South on Thursday. Miss Wilson, St. Mary’s School, was hostess of a very nice farewell party for Mrs Beale on Friday afternoon. It was a “kitchen tea,” as Mrs and Miss Beale are taking up their residence in Wellington shortly. Mrs. Beale received many useful and ornamental gifts. Those present were Mesdames H. Good, N. H. Thorpe, A. W. Budge, L. Riera, F. P. Uniacke, the Misses E. Wilson, D. Wilson, J. Beale, Elcombe, and Bartlett.

Mrs. Russell Kirkwood, Miranda Street, gave a jolly afternoon party on Wednesday for Miss Josephine King. The hostess looked charming in an ultra-marine georgette and she had lovely delphiniums and iris in her drawing-room. Those present were Mrs E. Buist (Manaia), the Misses Josephine King (guest of honour), M. Malone, M. Whittle, G. Amess, R. Furrie, R. Shannon, J. Jackson, L. Penn, J. B. Hale, N. Hardy-Jones, O. Masters. There were two amusing competitions. The first was won by Miss R. Shannon, while four tied for the second competition, which was eventually won by Miss Furrie. Each guest presented Miss King with a handkerchief as a farewell gift.
