Six Months in Gaol for Libel on Jews
4 ‘Nothing can be more mischievous to the public weal than a circulation of this kind,” said the Old Bailey judge, Mr Justice Greaves-Lord, in sentencing two men for a “seditious libel yn me lews.”
The men were Arnold S. Leese (57), n former veterinary surgeon, proprietor, and Walter Whitehead (62), printer oi the newspaper The Fascist. Leese was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, and Whitehead fined £2O, being ordered to be kept in custody intil the fine was paid. Leese refused the alternative of a ine.
Leese, from the dock, referred sevtral times to the Home Office. The Fudge interrupted and said: “There is io evidence that Sir John Simon is tonnected with this case. I warned you t>ef ore ’ ’
