Robert on, Tahora. for the week-end. Mrs Laverty' and her sister, Miss Donevan, left for Wanganui on Tuesday. • • • The breaking-up function at St. Mary’s, which is alwdy's a (very delightful entertainment, had to be cancelled, the prize-giving being held on Wednesday, when the staff and a few friends and parents were present. The Red Cross certificates won by the different pupils under the able tutelage of Mrs Stephens, were presented by Mr Brookes, Taranaki Red Cross president . Thfe Board expressed their regret at Miss Joyce Beale’s departure and presented her ■with a handsome barometer.

Mrs Betts h:is returned, from an enjoyable visit 10 friends' in the King Country. Mrs S. Pit: returned from Marton on Wednesday. She was accompanied by her daughter. Miss Marion Pitt. Miss Margaret Lennon and Miss Mary Lennpn, returned from Kawhia on Tuesday after a visit to Kawhia. t The Avon Croquet Club held a gala day on Wednesday. The weather was fine and the lawns perfect, everyone commenting upon their excellent, order. The president, Mrs Burton, ceived the guests. Amongst those present were Mesdames P. 'Weston snr., A. H. Hillock, .R. H. White. Hughes, Clark, Jenkins, C. Masters, Bulman, Allen, Betts, Bry'ce,-Burt, A. Moon, Childs, Crawford, Lamplough, Hampshire, Hedditch, T. Wilson, Bird. The golf croquet was won byMrs C. Masters. “Darts,” in charge of Mrs Betts, was won by Master Hughes. The "Taipo” was won byMrs Hughes; "Zig-zag” by Mrs GLamplough; “Clock croquet” by Mrs A. H. Hillock. A delightful afternoon tea was arranged by Mrs Byrce and Mrs Allen. The produce stall was in charge of Mesdames Hughes and Jenkins.
