CHINESE ACTION
Well-equipped Troops Moving Northwards. Press Association—Copyright. London, December 15. Thousands of Chinese Government troops, equipped with German trench helmets obtained by barter and in full war kit, are streaming northward to drive a wedge between the Shensi mutineers and the Communists, says the correspondent of the Daily Telegraph at Nanking. The Government intends to consolidate the military situation before negotiating with the rebels. The governors of Shensi, Hopei and Shantung provinces have assured the Government of their loyalty and their readiness to assist in the suppression of the rebels. Thirty Government war planes flew over Sianfu to-day and dropped leaflets demanding that Marshal Chiang Kai Shek, who was detained by the rebels, be removed to safety. He was not released, however. He telegraphed to his wife; “I am safe. Do not worry.” It is reported that General Chang Sueh-liang has agreed to confer with Mr W. H. Donald, the Australian journalist who has been acting as adviser to Marshal Chiang Kai Shek, and who has arrived at Sianfu by air.
