PETRIE SHIELD TENNIS. The Stratford Club A team to play Methodist A at Stratford in the first match of the Petrie shield competition is: Misses J. Francis, G. Brown, H. Wilmshurst, T. Lacy and Messrs J. Wilmshurst, M. Lawrence, W. McCullough and L. Mclnnes. STRATFORD FIRE BRIGADE. The Superintendent of the Stratford Fire Brigade (Mr E. Brocklebank) presented at last night’s parade a five-year’s service medal to Fireman R. Watson. Following the usual monthly meeting of the brigade, the officers entertained the members at supper. The superintendent extended Christinas an.l New Year greetings to all members of the force. ABSENT-MINDED. One frequently hears of the ingenuity of postal officials in discovering the addressee when a letter is sent to “Mr. Smith, England,” “Mr. Mumble, Stratford. Yokohama,” but a Stratford man this morning gave an officer the most difficult test of all. Wandering up to the counter h,y innocently asked the clerk for ah “addressed” envelope. The clerk, apparently accustomed to the mild lunacies of the public, handed him without question the stamped envelope he’, wanted.
STRATFORD BOWLING TEAMS. The following rinks have, been chosen for the Stratford A team against Avon A on Saturday: Franklin, Bake, Smith, McDonald; Healy, Hugo, Liddell, Clark; Ewing, Aitken, Lawson, Pope; Peek, Douglas, 11. Harris, Allen; Gallon, Sullivan, Masters, Amess. The following colis’ rinks will also play: Hickey’, Fleming, Hill, Burgess; Bellringer, Wood, Johnson, Brown. 100 MILES TO SEE CALF-JUDGING. Among those who attended the championship calf-judging at Eltham yesterday was a party of five children who came from Whangamomona, a distance of nearly 50 miles. In view of the enthusiasm of these children in coming such a long distance they were specially entertained by the secretary, Mr E. K. Cameron, who made them his guests for the (lay. They were Brian McCutchan, Robert Curry, Jack Stewart, Foster Irwin ami Doreen Jenning, and they were in charge of Mr Jenning. SHIELD BOWLING DRAW.
