BOXING.
Eddie Pierce, one of the best cruise'rw-eight boxers South Africa has produced, has decided to try his luck in America, and. w r as to have ! left England at the end of September for the United States. Pierce is one of the team of three under contract to the well-known manager, Bill Daly; the other two are Maurice Strickland (New Zealand) and Joe Connolly, the Scottish lightweight. Strickland will be given test matches with a view to him opposing Max Baer. Connolly, who knocked out Gustavei Humery i>ii five rounds, is regarded as a sure contender for Lou Ambers’ world ‘title. Pierce, who fought a good battle against Eric Seedig, will have the opportunity of battling his way to the top of the cruiserweight class. Pierce will, probably have more opportunities of making good in the United States than in England, and his ty'pe of fighting is certain to appeal to the American crowds. i
