COMMENT IN COMMONS
All People Wish Edward Happiness. Press Association —Copyright. R’eeived Noon, London, Dec. 10. When the House of Commons resumed Major Attlee said that the whole country had received the news of abdication with deep sorrow, but since the King had made his decision and resolved to abide by it, the Commons could do nothing but accept it. All the people would wish the King a long and happy life. Sir Herbert Sinclair declared that the Government had no option but to reject the marriage proposal. The prompt action which the King himself had enjoined, would best serve the dignity of the Thrdne and the reputation of the Parliamentary Institutions. Mr. Winston Churchill, rising amid dead silence, said that recriminations were not only useless, but also harmful and wrong. He accepted wholeheartedly what the Prime Minister had proved was the decision taken by His Majesty freely, voluntarily, and spontaneously in his own time and way.
