Sealing Irrigation Races. The use of flood waters to seal the races of the Levels irrigation scheme has proved most successful, according to a report from Mr A. I). Todd assistant-engineer to the Public Works Department at Temuka. At first .there was considerable leakage through the walls of the completed races when the water was admitted. During the trial flow, however, heavy rain in the back country caused .the Opihi to rise rapidly and become discoloured It was decided to allow this muddy water to flow down the races to introduce silt and clay to cement the leaky parts of the races. This experiment has proved most satisfactory.
