Mrs W. G. Liddell entertained at bridge last night. • « • Miss D. Nash, Wellington, is the guest of her sister, Mrs W. A. Mackay. • • • Mrs W. A. Mackay was a bridge hostess on Saturday night, for her guest, Mrs D. Nash.

Mrs Cooper, Tolaga Bay, is staying with her mother, Mrs McCluggage, Percy Avenue. » # * Miss C. Milligan, Owhango, is visiting her aunt, Mrs W. Hall, Cloton Road. Miss Beal entertained some friends on Saturday night at St. Mary’s school. Some very enjoyable musical items were given. The members of the Presbyterian Girls’ Association were entertained by Mrs Taylor, Hamlet Street, on Tuesday night, the occasion being to meet Miss M. McCluggage, who is to be married on Boxing Day. The guest of honour was wearing yellow floral georgette which was very becoming. Miss Taylor, who acted as hostess, wore jade green figured ninon. Those present ‘were Mrs Cooper (Tolaga Bay), Misses Lilly (2), M. McCluggage, M. Young, D. Thompson, J. Savage, C. Anderson, P. Anderson. There were many amusing competitions during the evening Miss McCluggage winning a handsome vase. Miss D. Thompson sang and Miss C. Anderson recited.

The annual break up of the “Brownie” was held in the Parish Hall on Saturday night, when a very jolly party was given. The Pack leaders, Pat Anderson and Betty White, were in charge of the Brownies, Barbara Ewing, Thelma Wunch, Joyce Cummings, Joyce Golding, Cora Fredric, Alison Graig, Isabell Bird, Shona. Golding, Jean Watson. Mrs. D’Arth assiste.d She is to be “Brown Owl” next season. Mrs. Ewing and Miss Davediua. Bird were in charge of the Cubs who were also invited to 'be pretent. Miss Espllnj and the guides committee, Mrs. Dick, Miss Rogers, Mrs. D. White, and Mrs. Fredric, were also present. There were numerous games organised, Brownie Cora Fredric sang very sweetly; Barbara. Ewing danced; Shona Wunch and Isabelle Bird gave piano solos; J. and S. Golding recited, as did Jean Watson also. The final item was a playette, “Brownies in Nursery Land.”

| A very’ jolly party was held on Tuesday night for Miss J. Beale and |Mr von Stunner who are leaving Stratford shortly. Mrs E. H. Young, Birecon • Road, kindly lent her resitdence for the function which was held under the auspices of the local branch of the British Drama. League. Those present included Mr and Mrs Amess, Mr and Mrs E. H. Young, Mr and Mrs Baden Bellringer, Mr and Mrs W. Hall, Dr and Mrs Steven, Uniacke, Fredric, R. Tyrer, E. McCluggage, Misses A. T. Guthrie (Midhirst), Cartwright (2), Z. and 0. Masters, E. Moore, Esplin, L. Penn, Hall, M. Skoglund, Messrs C. Till, D. Thomson. Apologies were received from Mesdames J. B. Richards, E. Rutherford, R. Curtis, Anderson, Walker, Stokes, Misses Black, Stone, Bremner, Wilson, R. Furrie, B. Macalister, Messrs Sherson, R. Carryer, H. Goodman, N. O. Ebbett, Glover, L. J?;rdine, ,D. White. Some delightful vocal items were given by the Misses Cartwright, Mrs E. H. Young and Mr Amess. After supper Mr Amess, on behalf of the members of the Drama League, made a presentation to Miss J. Beale, eulogising her splendid and invaluable work for the different festivals both as actress and stage manager. Mr von Stunner was presented with a fountain pen, i Mr Amess stressing the fact that he will be missed on the executive and as an actor. i
