Gas Masks for All In 24 Hours BRITAIN BEATS FRANCE WITH HER ANTI-AIR RAID PLANS Air raid! If this dread cry ts hean in Britain, Britain is prepared. Within 21-48 hours every member ol the population will have a gas mast and will know how to use it. Major Stuart Blackmore, of the Home Office, an expert on the subject of air raids and poison gases, told doctors in London something of the conn try’s plans in the event of attack. Britain’s protection plans, he said were more advanced than those ol France. It had been difficult to gel any information from Germany on the subject. A factory had been purchased for the production of masks for- the public The masks would be kept in storehouses’ all over the country, and when distrii bution started there would be specially instructed persons available for consultation on the use of the masks. j All round the coast there were men who were able to pick up the sound ot advancing aeroplanes within twenty minutes, and the, directional warning could be sent out within seven to ten e minutes. He estimated diplomatic tension, which the Home Office expected to occur prior to an attack, to occupy some days. This would enable them to take precautionary measures, if it were deemed tit, against air attack. “If ever war comes,” he added, ‘‘the civil population will be as much in the front line as anyone else —and the most serious threat we anticipate is the introduction of panic and the towering of moral.” Major Blackmore also revealed that children below four or five years of age cannot wear gas masks. The research department is actively engaged pn this question.

Toe-In. Toe-in is the amount by which the front wheels are inclined inwards, and upon its correctness depends to a considerable extent the life of tyTe treads and ease of steering. To measure toe-in, set the steering straight ahead. Measure between the rims at hub centre level, ahead and, at the rear of the wheels. Should the measurement be less at the rear than at the front, or more than l-Bin closer at front than at the rear, an adjustment is necessary. An experienced fnechanic will carry out 'this adjustment satisfactorily. Certain cars need other checks in conjunction with toe-in.
