LABOUR OPPOSITION.
Party Is Against King’s Marriage. Press Association—Copyright. • * London, December 8. Mr. C. R. Attlee, Labour Leader, informed the News Chronicle: “The statement has been repeatedly made that I have in some way committed the Labour Party regarding the position concerning the King. It cannot be stated oVer-emphatically that I have on no occasion been asked to give any undertakings, nor have I offered any.”
The Labour Party executive to-day discussed the situation for two hours. A big majority opposed the King’s marriage and expressed the opinion that the country should be fully informed of the facts at the earliest opportunity. A full meeting of the party will be held to-day. ” There was little business on the stock markets to-day, and transactions in some sections were reduced by 50 per ceilt. Even investment sections serious contracted and are not expected to improve until the crisis is ended. Cotton manufacturers, despite the fact that a million pounds’ worth of Coronation orders are at stake, are calmly awaiting the outcome. At present there has been no large cancellation of orders. Work has been suspended on flags and bunting containing the King’s portrait.
